Why I can’t stand MegaBus any more…

I’m posting this from a MegaBus heading into New York City from Philadelphia for a whisky event this evening.

This is probably the fourth time I’ve taken this specific bus (the 2pm out of Philly) in the last few months, but it’ll be the last time. Every single run has been more than an hour late getting into NYC, and it’s the same damn problems every time:

Construction on the New Jersey Turnpike. The road work’s been going on for a year, MegaBus, and there’s an easy route around it, yet your drivers stick to the Turnpike the entire way;

The new driver change midway through our trip. They pull off at a rest stop, turn the engine (and air conditioning, wi-fi, etc) off, and swap out drivers. I know drivers can only go so many hours in a day…switch them at the start of the run;

The apparent inability to drive the speed limit. When we’re getting passed by senior citizens with their left blinker on for the last 5 miles, that’s a little ridiculous. Drive safely, but at least keep up with the pace of traffic.

Look, I’m tired of having to spend 3 hours on the bus for a trip I could drive in 90 minutes. When I have to pick a bus scheduled to arrive at least 2 hours before an event so that I have a chance of being on time, that’s ridiculous.

I know the fares are cheap, and you get what you pay for (but it’s been years since I actually paid a dollar for a trip).

MegaBus = MegaMess!
